On behalf of The Community Times magazine and Larry D. Smith, Senior Publisher, please read the following updates from us with respect to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the citizens of eastern South Carolina:
1. As we are all witnessing and being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to note The Community Times magazine remains on the frontline, providing vital and crucial information to our readers and constituents who are challenged by the expanding and growing public health crisis confronting our families, businesses, and communities. Our newspaper is still printing, and our online and digital distributions of vital, lifesaving, accurate information on COVID-19 are all being done responsibly and effectively. With that said, our newspaper and magazine are facing a reduction in advertising at a time during this crisis when news businesses are crucially needed. We are therefore urgently calling upon federal, state, and local business organizations and public health officials to immediately increase their outreach to citizens in eastern South Carolina via our COVID-19 Resources Guide. We also encourage our partners and supporters to contact local health officials to assist in their information distribution and outreach efforts. Our offices remain open and we are working 24/7 to come up with additional ways and means to assist those on the frontline throughout this unprecedented public health crisis.
2. Today The Community Times magazine is establishing a COVID-19 Resource Guide for eastern South Carolina that will:
a. Aggregate facts and update information about how COVID-19 is impacting all age categories across eastern South Carolina.
b. Post daily news briefings, original content, and other pertinent information on our website and social media.
c. Send out periodic, regional COVID-19 alerts to the members of our databases.
d. Provide the latest information on how to lower exposure to COVID-19, with information disseminated from the CDC and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. We will also include interviews with leading voices in the local healthcare and business communities regarding the programs, policies, and efforts of their organizations to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our region.
To answer some of the many questions in eastern South Carolina regarding COVID-19, The Community Times will publish a special guide on April 16, 2020. This guide will aim to provide information on programs offered by the local, regional, state, and federal levels to limit the spread of COVID-19. The guide will also include suggestions about what organizations offer community resources, with a list of programs available in our region of South Carolina, and details about how to access them. We hope that these resources will give local organizations the opportunities to share their vital messages regarding the programs they have in place to support those in need during this crisis. The COVID-19 Resource Guide will also include information on where businesses and families can get much-needed help from social services and government agencies in the region.
You can place your message in the COVID-19 eastern South Carolina Resources Guide, which will be available free of charge, distributed at local grocery stores and pharmacies as well as online at www.scvillage-voices.com, and linked from all of our social media pages. We will also place a link to our guide on neighborhood apps in the region.
Please contact us with your recommendations, comments, and questions.
May God bless all of us during this time of crisis!
